Generate several takes in Suno and pick: when one misses, revisit the backing track first

Even with a good backing MP3, not every take follows the progression. Generate several and keep the best.
When a take misses
- Before touching Style, listen to the backing MP3 again. A weak progression is the usual cause
- If the progression is fine, generate a few more
- If it still doesn't fit, don't force it. Give Suno only the general mood (plus any key change or odd meter) and lower Audio Influence, so it treats the backing track loosely and fills in the rest
What not to write in Style or lyrics
Chord names ("Fmaj9 - E7 - Am9") in Style, Exclude or lyrics are ignored by Suno. Describe the feel instead, e.g. "descending minor seventh chain, II-V turnaround feel".
