How to get odd meters (7/8, 11/8) across in Suno: upload a bed with drums
2026.10.29
Writing "7/8" in a Suno field does not convey the meter. Only sound reaches Suno, and the meter comes through only via drums.
Steps
- When making the bed (an MP3 of the chords on keys and pads), ask for drums to be added. A normal bed has no melody, bass or drums; odd meters are the exception
- Listen to the bed on its own and check that you can feel the beat
- Upload it to Suno as audio
| Model | v6 |
|---|---|
| Audio | Upload the bed MP3 |
| Weirdness | 80 |
| Style Influence | 80–100 |
| Variety | Off (under More Options; on Normal, Suno rewrites your Style) |
Audio Influence is around 60–85 depending on the song. Don't put chord names in Style; describe how it sounds.
When it drifts
Some takes won't follow the bed. Generate several and pick one; if they keep drifting, revisit the bed before tweaking the Style wording. If it still doesn't fit, give Suno only the meter and a rough mood, and lower Audio Influence so it treats the bed as a loose reference.
